It’s not you, it’s me

I never thought I’d be one to leave a school mid-year. I am not a quitter and I’ve always prided myself on never giving up. But as the choices become more complex, and less black and white, I’ve realized that sometimes not giving up on a dream means walking away from something that you know…

Rough Week

It was a rough week. One co-teacher needs surgery, the other needs a refresher course in teaching. One student needs a hug and reassurance that his parents do love him, even if they don’t love each other. One parent needs to hear that everything is okay, that her child, despite cognitive delays, is showing progress…

Where I get stoked to move back to the Midwest

Alright the title is a bit of a stretch, but whatever.  I’m trying to keep the continuity of it all, but I don’t know how long that will last.  Anyways, I am just itching to get back to the Midwest and into a more urban/populized(if that’s a word) setting.  After nine months of rural living,…

Where I pass the tests!

It’s been a while since I’ve done an update on here, but there hasn’t been all that much new to be honest.  The biggest piece of news, as you may have deduced from the title of this post, is that I passed my certification tests!  I’m pretty stoked about this, especially since it means that…

Where I prepare for the interview(s)

I learned earlier this week that I am going to have my first interview in a couple days.  I’m pretty excited.  It’s for a charter school on the south side of Chicago and, I believe, it is for a high school position.  My contact is a principal of a high school in the charter network…

Dear you

Note: I wrote all of this while spending Thanksgiving with my family and saved it as a draft, to finish at a later date. Clearly I forgot about it, till now. At the time I found my student’s concern endearing and adorable. Of course I was coming back to them. On December 23rd I lost…

A child threw a block at my head and then kissed me on the mouth. I’m pretty sure this is how abusive relationships (and the flu) start. So I’ve started an abusive relationship with a 4 year old.   My social life is clearly not improving.
